Funding Priorities

Current Funding Priorities at Montefiore and The Children's Hospital

To help your interests intersect with the needs of the medical center, we invite you to contact us and inquire about current special needs that might be of interest to you. The following are ongoing funding priorities for you to consider.

Montefiore

The Children's Hospital

Montefiore Annual Fund

Unrestricted gifts to the Annual Fund provide resources where they are most needed including patient care, community service, scientific research, or medical education. Individuals who contribute $1,000 or more in a calendar year for unrestricted purposes are enrolled in The Sir Moses Montefiore Society and are honored at a special annual reception.

The Center for Aging and Independence at Montefiore

The Center provides a range of services that focus on the unique health care needs of older adults. Instead of offering fragmented care by multiple health care professionals, teams work collaboratively to manage complex conditions and medications, assess social supports, and assist patients and families in arranging appropriate and compassionate care. Interns, residents and fellows who study and work at Montefiore are trained to practice in this ideal geriatrics service model.

Institute for Human Communications

With more than 35,000 visits annually, the Institute is among the largest programs in the region that provides comprehensive care for hearing deficits or problems of speech, language or voice. For the profoundly deaf, Montefiore is the only medical center in the Bronx and Westchester County that performs complex surgeries known as cochlear implants. Underwriting is needed for a number of specific scientific and clinical research activities.

Research

Montefiore sponsors a range of medical research from basic laboratory sciences to clinical trials of new therapies. The collaboration between laboratory research and clinical investigations and the transfer of clinical observations to the laboratory is known as "translational research" and produces state-of-the-art care for patients and streamlines the development of new therapies from conception to early stage clinical trials. Research funds are encouraged in a variety of specialized disciplines.

Family and Social Medicine

Montefiore is deeply committed to community service and care to the disadvantaged. In addition to providing health care to all, regardless of ability to pay, Montefiore proactively offers a range of community and family services, including healthcare for homeless persons, AIDS programs, community dentistry, an extensive school-based health program, home visits and other social services.

   Montefiore-Einstein Heart Center

The support of our generous benefactors makes possible our ability to provide outstanding cardiac care for our patients while finding new break-through treatments, and educating the next generation of healthcare providers. Donations help to sustain important, cutting-edge research, provide clinical services to those in need, and support a broad spectrum of important outreach projects in the community.

  Center for Cancer Care

The Montefiore-Einstein Cancer Center is nationally renowned for outstanding patient care and exceptionally skilled physicians. We develop and adopt the newest and most innovative methods to research, diagnose and treat a full range of cancers.   Click here to give to the Cancer Center.

Specific Funding Priorities for The Children's Hospital At Montefiore

In addition to exceptional health care, The Children's Hospital at Montefiore offers many non-clinical services to complement medical treatments and comfort children and families during their stay. These supportive services are highly dependent on charitable donations from caring donors.

Phoebe Stein Child Life Program

Child Life Specialists provide emotional and psychological support to children and adolescents to assist in their recoveries. The staff familiarizes young patients with hospital surroundings, informing them about their illness and treatment in an age-appropriate manner. Child Life Specialists also structure therapeutic recreation programs in art, music and writing.

B'N Fit Program

The Division of Adolescent Medicine at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center have developed the Bronx Nutrition and Fitness Initiative for Teens (B'N Fit) Program to address the issue of adolescent obesity. At the B'N Fit program youth are offered a comprehensive medical, nutritional, psychosocial and home evaluation. They are enrolled in an intensive 12 week program followed by a weekly maintenance program. This is available to youth between the ages of 12 to 21.

Suzanne Pincus Family Learning Place

This Center in the hospital lobby offers consumer health information through printed and audiovisual materials and Internet resources.  It is staffed by knowledgeable health educators who also provide links to support groups and community services.

Family Amenities Fund

A child's hospitalization or ambulatory visits for chronic conditions can create undue hardship to families. To ease the stress and expense of frequent or long-term visits, the Family Amenities Fund helps cover family out-of-pocket expenses such as parking, transportation and meals during treatments.

The J.E. and Z.B. Butler Child Advocacy Center

In a separate facility from The Children's Hospital, a compassionate and specially trained staff provides emergency care and support to young victims of abuse or neglect and counseling to their families.

    The Rett Syndrome Center

Among the highly specialized services offered by the Division of Child Neurology at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) is the Center for Rett syndrome. This is the only center for Rett syndrome in the Tri-State area.  Click here to make a donation to the Rett Center.
